2019 iPhones 'Likely' to Have Faster 18W Charger and Lightning to USB-C Cable in Box

Apple is widely expected to release three new iPhone models later this year, and each device will "likely" include a faster 18W USB-C power adapter and a Lightning to USB-C cable in the box, according to Japanese blog Mac Otakara.

18W USB-C power adapter bundled with 2018 iPad Pro, also sold separately

This rumor is a big "finally" if true. Despite adding fast charging support to the iPhone 8and newer, allowing for a 50 percent charge in just 30 minutes via USB-C Power Delivery, Apple has continued to include the same old 5W power adapter and Lightning to USB-A cable with iPhones for many years.

For now, to take advantage of fast charging, customers have to spend a total of $48 to purchase a standalone 18W USB-C power adapter and Lightning to USB-C cable from Apple, although cheaper options are available on Amazon.

A bundled Lightning to USB-C cable would also mean that customers who paid at least $749 for a new iPhone would finally have a cable that connects with the latest MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models out of the box.

Last year, we heard a similar rumor about Apple bundling a faster 18W USB-C power adapter with 2018 iPhones, but it ended up being for 2018 iPad Pro models. This is the second time Mac Otakara has shared this rumor in as many months, so hopefully there is truth to it this time around.

Mac Otakara also rehashes several other rumors we've heard before, including the next iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max having triple-lens rear cameras, and the next iPhone XRhaving a dual-lens rear camera. All three iPhones are also expected to feature two-way wireless charging like the Galaxy S10. Sponsor ads:

Apple Gets Top Marks on 'Tech Support Showdown' List

Apple continues to dominate when it comes to customer support, according to Laptop Mag's annual tech support showdown, which is designed to help customers determine which companies are offering the most reliable customer service in the tech industry.

Apple received an aggregate score of 91, earning 54 points for its web-based tech support and 37 points for its phone-based tech support. Laptop Mag says that Apple's support staff are among the "fastest and most knowledgeable," offering up "accurate answers" to Mac questions across live chat, social media, and the phone.

In a more in-depth breakdown of Apple's score, Laptop Mag says its editors queried Apple about Dark Mode in macOS Mojave, disabling automatic updates, and turning off the webcams (something not possible).

Live chat was determined to be the best Apple support experience, and it took between 4 and 9 minutes for live chat staff to walk Laptop Mag through answers to its queries. Phone support was also quick, thorough, and helpful.

Larry was surprised when I told him I wanted to disable the MacBook Air's webcam. After saying he typically just puts tape over his webcam, Larry asked me to wait for 3 to 5 minutes while he checked to see if anything else were possible. Two minutes later, Larry was back on the call to walk me through the System Preferences app and show me how to disable webcam access, app by app. He also noted there might be a "fancier" way to disable the webcam via the Library (it's actually in the Terminal program), but that this was easier.

Few companies even came close to beating Apple's score of 91 in the Tech Support Showdown, but Razer, the number two company, scored an 88 and Dell scored a 73. Apple competitor Samsung earned a score of 73, while Microsoft got a 64.

As always, Laptop Mag arrived at these scores by posing as everyday PC and Mac users to get answers to three questions from major laptop manufacturers. Both the online and telephone support systems were tested. 100 points total were possible, 60 from online support because it's a more popular way to get help, and 40 from phone support.Sponsor ads:

How to Use AirPlay 2 Speakers With HomeKit

Apple's AirPlay 2 brought speaker controls to the Home app, allowing you to individually control all of your AirPlay-compatible speakers from your iPhone or iPad. Keep reading to learn how to add your speakers to the Home app and organize them by room.

Before you start adding speakers to the Home app, make sure that your iOS device is running iOS 11.4 or later. You should also check that you've turned on iCloud Keychain on your iPhone or iPad. To do so, launch the Settings app, tap your name in the banner at the top, tap iCloud, then turn on the iCloud Keychain toggle.

If you own a HomePod, it should automatically appear in the Home app on your iOS device. You can also add an Apple TV to the Home app as a speaker, so long as it's on the same Wi-Fi network and signed into iCloud with your Apple ID. The following steps show you how to add third-party AirPlay 2 speakers to the Home app.

How to Add Speakers to the Home App

Apple maintains a section of its website that lists the speakers and receivers that come with AirPlay 2 support. Note that some speakers might require a firmware update or additional setup with the manufacturer's app before the following steps work.

Launch the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.

Tap the plus (+) button in the top-right corner of the screen.

Tap Add Accessory.

Tap Don't have a Code or Can't Scan, then tap the speaker you want to add. You may have to wait a moment for it to show up.

Wait for your speaker to be added, then give it a name and choose a room where it's located.

Tap Done.
How to Organize Your Speakers by Room

When you add speakers to the Home app, you can use AirPlay 2 to play music everywhere in your home. If you have songs in your Music Library, it will also let you play a certain song in one room while something different is playing in another room on a different speaker.

Launch the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.

Press and hold the speaker icon.

Tap Settings.

Tap Room and choose a room where your Apple TV, HomePod, or other speaker is located. Also Read:Best Alternatives to 123Movies

Tap Done.

You can use Siri to play music in specific rooms of the house or even multiple rooms. For example, you could invoke the digital assistant with "Hey Siri" and then say something like "Play Red Hot Chili Peppers in the kitchen and the living room."Sponsor ads:

Niantic Opens Name Reservations for Upcoming AR Game ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’

Niantic Opens Name Reservations for Upcoming AR Game ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’

We first heard about Niantic’s next augmented reality game, which would be based on the Harry Potter franchise, in 2017. And then, last year, we finally got our first teaser trailer for the title known as Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. And now the developer is making it easy for future players to secure their names.

On Thursday, Niantic, the developer behind popular AR games Pokémon GO and Ingresslaunched a dedicated website for players of those games to transfer their usernames over to the incoming Wizards Unite. The title is set to arrive later this summer, with no exact release date confirmed just yet. However, Niantic is making it easy for folks who are looking forward to playing the game to secure their names ahead of time.

So if you want to use the same username you have from Niantic’s other AR games, you can do so. You’ll need to head through the Niantic source link at the bottom of the article, and you’ll need to enter either your Pokémon GO or Ingress login credentials. Once you do, players will be able to select the option to transfer over their information to Wizards Unite.

It works for both iOS and Android users.

99 people are talking about this

As we near the inevitable launch date of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Niantic should have more to share. When the developer does, we will let you know what the company’s next AR game brings to the table. Will this new franchise-based title be as popular as the Pokémon game from years ago? One has to imagine Niantic hopes it will be. There’s certainly no denying that Harry Potter is still wildly popular.

Clear app cache or clear app data: how and when to use each 2019 Guide

Anybody who has ever encountered an app or software problem on Android may have been given the advice “clear the app cache” or “clear the app data”. These two solutions are often thought of as miracle cures for Android, but what is the difference between these seemingly similar operations? Let me explain what they are, and how and when to use them.
Jump to:

What is clearing the app cache?

What does 'clear app data' mean?

When should they be applied?

How do I clear app or cached data?

Beware of performance boosting apps

Conclusion
What is clearing the app cache?

The cache is the temporary storage area of a device, which retains certain kinds of data. The aim of this is to speed up how quickly and smoothly your device operates and reduce how much data is processed and consumed.

After restarting your phone, have you ever noticed how slow your camera app is to open at first, while each subsequent attempt is quicker? The increase in speed after the initial launch of an app is thanks to this cached data. Similarly, you might find that websites load faster on a second visit. Once again, this is because files such as images have been previously stored in the cache.

Best Android apps of all time

There is often no need to manually manage cached data: Android is very capable of doing this on its own. However, if an app starts to misbehave or stop working, then you may wish to manually take this step.

When you clear an app's cached data, you remove the temporary files placed there, and you'd be surprised how often this simple step works. You should also note, however, that it doesn't guarantee better performance, and the app may even be temporarily slower the next time it's used.
What does 'clear app data' mean?

Clearing app data is a more severe (for want of a better word) step. While the cache can be cleared with little risk to app settings, preferences and saved states, clearing the app data will delete/remove these entirely.

Clearing data resets an app to its default state: it makes your app act like when you first downloaded and installed it. For example, say you make changes to the settings of your favorite fitness app. You change the length of exercises and sound settings.

Clearing the cache will not affect these saved settings. Clearing stored data may, and in all likelihood will.

When should they be applied?

There are a few circumstances in which you may wish to clear app or cached data.

Firstly, to save storage space. Some apps can store gigabytes of data that you no longer need (podcast apps are often guilty of this). In this case, you may wish to clear their data.

The other, and more common, the reason is to reset an app to a default state if it has become problematic, buggy or otherwise disruptive.
How do I clear app or cached data?

I recommend doing preventative cache cleanings from time to time, and when you do it, do it from the list of apps with the most data. In order to do this:

Go to the Settings Menu

Click on Apps

Find the All tab (if your system doesn't show you all apps by default)

Choose an app that is taking up a lot of space

Click the button Clear Cache. If you're running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or newer on your device then you'll need to click on Storage and then Clear Cache.

To clear the app data instead of the cache, simply select Clear Data instead

However, this only works to clean one app. In order to clean the cache of every app at the same time, follow the steps below:

Go to Settings

Click on Storage>Cache Data or Saved Data

A screen will ask for confirmation to remove everything stored within the caches. Confirm and save to remove the content.

Note: On Android 8 Oreo or newer versions, you may not be able to do a system-wide clearing of cache and data, depending on your manufacturer's skin. If you go to Settings>Storage>Free up space>TemporaryFiles and find Cached data there.

For individual tutorials for specific devices, you can search the AndroidPIT website.
A word on "performance-boosting" apps

There are many apps that claim to "boost device performance" but often this just isn't true. In many cases, these apps merely provide a one-touch button for ending processes and clearing the cache, both of which are largely unnecessary on today’s Android platform.

You can, and should, do this manually if it is ever required, but don't make it a habit.

Performance-boosting apps aren't effective

A cache is basically a storage area where data or frequently used processes are saved for quicker access in the future. Ultimately, the cache actually saves time and avoids unnecessary use of hardware on your phone.

7 tips to speed up your phone

So, cleaning your app when your phone is running slowly or the memory is full could seem like the best option in the short run, but it could have consequences in the long term, which is why you shouldn't do it too often.
Final thoughts

There is no “better” or “worse” option when it comes to clearing the cache and clearing app data. Both processes have their own purpose.

Problems with the Google Play Store? Here's how to re-install it

Your first step towards fixing a problematic app should be clearing the cache, as this is the least intrusive method for quickly fixing apps. If that fails, or if you wish to free up a larger volume of storage space, then clear the data. Just remember that anything stored or saved in the app, including audio, video, or image files, will also be removed.

Has that cleared up your concerns regarding app data and cached data? If not, tell us in the comments.
